Waitomo Adventures was established approximately 20 years ago and we have taken over half a million people into the caves since then. Our safety record is excellent and there have been no serious injuries with us in the caves but yes, we do get the odd twisted ankle or shoulder from time to time.

Participants should be moderately fit and healthy. You must be reasonably sporty to keep up with the pace with our more challenging activities. Trips are not suitable for people who are heavily overweight or suffer from serious health problems such as heart complaints or significant back injury. Generally, if you can go bushwalking or skiing for a day, you can definitely do this.

All medical issues must be declared when checking in and also, when asked by the guides. In most cases, minor medical issues will not preclude participation. However, it is important that the booking staff and activity guides are made aware of any issues prior to commencement of the activity.

Rescue underground is a slow and difficult process. There is a risk involved that complications such as hypothermia will make any rescue scenario more difficult or dangerous than the same injury sustained above the ground.

Eye Glasses

Please note that we do not recommend our clients to wear eye-glasses during our action activities - unless impaired vision will affect safety. The reason is that the glasses might be scratched, broken or become lost. However, it is completely possible to wear glasses during these activities provided appropriate care is taken.

If you do wear your glasses, you must ensure that they are tightly securely onto yourself at all times. You'll also be asked to accept full responsibility for them. We strongly recommend that customers carry their own insurance for losses of this kind. Waitomo Adventures Ltd will not be held reliable for any damage to eye glasses.  

Children

All children under 15 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or guardian or mature adult known to the child, aged 18 years or over.

Minimum Numbers

All our adventure trips must have a minimum of 2 customers to depart, unless stated otherwise.
